Summer Blockbusters
July 2025
We often get the question, what do you drink in the summer? To which we reply, "everything". With every grape variety being produced in Oregon today there is a producer out there doing it in a style that is perfect for these long, hot, summer days. Because not all blockbusters are at the movies...this month our tasting panels chose to feature some pretty paparazzi worthy producers and their summer wine picks. We're hoping that you're reading this somewhere fabulous, enjoying the sun.
That said, there are some pro-tips...
-
Grab a melon-baller and attack that melon in the fridge. You can freeze the melon balls in an ice cube tray for those of us that insist on ice cubes.
-
On hot days, start your wine glasses and RED wines in the fridge (20 mins should do it) before you open and pour them, it'll create a cool little space on the planet for that red wine to open up and show you all of it's iterations. All in a time frame that doesn't require you to chug the wine before it gets warm.
-
Hate how the ice cubes that you sink your white wine bottles in make the wine so cold you can't taste the fruit in the wine anymore? Rinse out that yogurt container and fill it with water before throwing the lid on and the whole thing in the freezer. Once frozen you can put it in your double wall bottle chiller and all will be right with the world.
-
When traveling with wine, bring a cooler with some gel packs - all the colors of wine don't like heat or swings in temperature. Always crack a window or two if you have wine in the car while the suns out and it's over 70 degrees out...your car warms quickly when closed up.
