Sound & Vision 2023 Vermentino

Community

FIND/FARM THE BEST VINEYARDS.
PICK AT THE RIGHT TIME.
GET OUT OF THE WAY.

Sound & Vision Wine Co. was started in 2018 on a nestled hillside, with dappled sunlight, an artist’s vision and... ugh, whatever.

The truth is- the best wines come from good people doing yeoman’s work; letting nature, vineyard, and vintage dictate what a wine truly has to say. Sound & Vision is an exercise in getting out of the way; caring too much in the vineyard and doing as little in the winery as possible.

The ultimate goal is to source fruit from and/or farm the most distinctive vineyards in the Rogue Valley and let them sing.

Cellar 503 Tasting Notes

Sound & Vision, Talent, Oregon
2023 Vermentino

Vineyard :: A blend of 4 Diamonds (76%) and Layne (24%) fruit.
The 4 Diamonds Vineyard is a riverfront site in the Applegate Valley. Sandy, clay-loam soils with HUGE and abundant cobbles.
The historic Layne Vineyard is located on the Kubli Bench in the Applegate Valley. Planted in the early 70’s on granitic, alluvial soils.

The Vermentino was grafted several years ago onto 50 year old own rooted Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Dramatic diurnal shifts at both of these sites, 5 miles apart, ensure that the fruit keeps vibrant acidity with excellent flavor ripeness.

Vintage Notes :: The 2024 vintage started off rather uneventfully. Bud break popped right on time. We were fortunate to have another year sans water stress. Fairly normal temperatures through spring and early summer led us into a blazing hot July. This rapid warm up stressed quite a few of the younger vineyards and heat susceptible varieties in the region. As we got into August, temps moderated quite nicely. Even with the mild to, in some cases, cool late summer temps, harvest arrived right on time and we were all wrapped up by mid October.

Tasting Notes :: Citrus, star fruit, lemongrass and spice. The wine is high toned, beautifully textured, lazer focused, with a sense of minerality, and a long finish.

Fruit Handling/Elevage :: Whole cluster pressed and settled.

Fermented and aged in stainless steel. Native yeasts. Minimal effective SO2.

Tunes :: That’s the Joint - Funky 4+1

Meet your hosts of Indie Mixer in Southern Oregon - Labor Day Weekend

Joe Chepolis - Vigneron | Maître de Chai | Enfant Terrible

Taking an ever-growing passion for sniffing out compelling wines of all stripes, this enfant terrible traded a career in the cycling/action sports industry in Salt Lake City for one in the burgeoning So. Oregon wine world. Lucked into a winery job, got offered some fruit, learned at the School of Hard Knocks™, inherited/commandeered a couple of vineyards and thus Sound & Vision was born.

Carmen Nydegger - The Bread & Butter

Carmen traded in a long career in Film/television production for the unknown. Ever a serial entrepreneur on the side, always in search of a passion project, and ready to "take the bull by the horns” , she landed in the Rogue Valley and watched as the path began to unfold. With an eye for recognizing rare opportunity, and the guts to say yes, she has paved the way for this new adventure.
